Games of the XXIX Olympiad took place in Beijing, People’s Republic of China, from August 8 to August 24, 2008. There were a total of 10,500 athletes competing in a total of 302 events spread through 28 sports. The 29th Olympiad was a grand success. The Games witnessed 43 new world records and 132 new Olympic records. China won 51 gold medals. Michael Phelps of the United States broke the record for most gold medals in one Olympics and for most career gold medals. However, the greatest hero of Beijing 2008 was undoubtedly Usain Bolt of Jamaica who became the ‘World’s Fastest Man’ by winning both the 100m and the 200m dashes and setting new world records in both.
